What is S-23?

S-23 is a nonsteroidal SARM, short for Selective Androgen Receptor Modulator. S23 is one of the most recent SARMs that is undergoing research. Based on the available evidence, it has similar effects as RAD140 or LGD 4033, but it has a unique property:

It is currently being researched by GTX (a pharmaceutical company that specializes in hormonal drugs) to see if it can be used as a male contraceptive (due to its sperm-suppressing characteristics). During a study on rats, it caused 100% infertility in all cases. After discontinuing the intake of S-23, this effect quickly reversed.

As it is still in the early stages of clinical research, most of what is known about this compound comes from anecdotal evidence.

increased muscle mass

The increasing popularity of S-23 comes from it’s ability to increase muscle mass in a highly effective way. Users claim that the muscle building effects from S-23 can be compared to those of anabolic steroids while the unwanted side effects are way less.

In studies that where carried out on rats, S23 was given in combination with Estrogen which his known to decrease muscle mass. The results showed that this compound was able to override the catabolic effects of Estrogen and provide an increased muscle mass.

Improve bone density

SARMs like S23 offer unique bone health benefits thanks to their dual action: activating bone-building cells and increasing muscle strength. Based on the available research, it is able to improve bone density.

S-23 side effects

SARMs are not free of side effects and this is especially true for S23. The reported side effects where very similar to those of androgenic anabolic steroids and included:

Testosterone Suppression

Natural testosterone production decreases when using S23. This suppression can be quite severe resulting in an almost complete shutdown.  This effect was quickly reversed when the intake was stopped. S23 will also reduce FSH and LH levels.
